Based on Clifton L. Taulbert's book, this is the inspiring story of young Clifton who is born to an unmarried sharecropper and sent to live with his grandpa (Al Freeman Jr.) and then to his loving aunt (Phylicia Rashad). Cliff grows up in Mississippi amidst the Jim Crow laws aimed at keeping him segregated and unable to achieve success in the mid-20th-century American South.
