U.S. Marshal Hopalong Cassidy (William Boyd) is called to investigate payroll robberies at a mine in Del Oro, New Mexico. He arrives undercover, disguised as Marvelo the mind reader, a member of Doc Rufus Tate's (Earl Hodgins) medicine show. When Hoppy's friend Lucky (Russell Hayden) arrives in town, Hoppy gets him to pose as the marshal. Hoppy discovers that the ringleader of the outlaw gang is Ma Burton (Marjorie Rambeau) and is then captured by Ma and her gang and left to die in a burning mine. But, Lucky rescues Hoppy, and they bring Ma to justice.
