The ploy works, Roper falls in love with Carla, and she leaves with the escaping rebels including Marsh who has also fallen for Carla. But, Roper catches up with them and leads them back to Fort Bravo. It proves to be a difficult trek–especially when they meet up with a Mescalero Apache hunting party and must form an alliance to fend off the attack.

He sets out to recover a valuable Mandarin stamp that has been stolen and to solve murders that occurred during the heist. Even though Quillan had the same initials as Ellery Queen, he just didn't seem to fit the role–especially when the film was played more for laughs than for the mystery. No further Ellery Queen films were made until four years later.

Eileen Aspires to be an actress, and now Ruth pretends to be Eileen in her writings, which involve Eileen's misadventures with strange men. It works, and both find fame, fortune, and love. Highlight: Jack Lemmon and Betty Garrett perform "It's Bigger than You and Me." Screenplay by Blake Edwards.
