  Aspiring writer Arturo Bandini (Colin Farrell) leaves his home in Colorado and arrives in 1930s' Los Angeles with dreams of gaining fame and fortune through a writing career. Along with his fortune, he plans to have a beautiful, wealthy woman by his side. Arturo tries to make it in L.A., but after five months he is broke and hungry. That is when Camilla (Salma Hayek) enters his life. Camilla is a Mexican waitress who also wants more than she has been given in life. There is an attraction between the two, but Arturo and Camilla have much to overcome before they see the light of day.
