A U.S. nuclear submarine sinks to the ocean's bottom after being run into by a Norwegian freighter. The rescue begins, and retired Navy Captain Gates (David Carradine) and Mickey (Ned Beatty) descend to the submarine in a two-man, deep-submergence rescue vehicle in a daring attempt to save the crew.
