King (Myron McCormick), who realizes that Will can be a troublemaker, assigns Will the duty of "Permanent Latrine Orderly," and Will's friend Pvt. Ben Whitledge (Nick Adams) tries to convince Will to join him and be transferred into the Infantry. Later, Will and Ben are on an airplane that crashes; but, they escape, and King is dismayed when they show up for their funeral.
