  Katie Higgins (Esther Williams) and her Arkansas farm family need a new bull for the farm. They arrive in England where, one day while practicing for her swim, Katie meets dashing Frenchman Andre Lanet (Fernando Lamas) who both helps and distracts Katie in her preparations for the race. But, Katie does succeed in her swim, and Andre even jumps in and swims the final mile with her. A highlight of this film involves the cartoon sequence representing Katie's dream in which she swims with Tom and Jerry.

But, Roper catches up with them and leads them back to Fort Bravo. It proves to be a difficult trek–especially when they meet up with a Mescalero Apache hunting party and must form an alliance to fend off the attack.

Dan finally learns gentlemanly behavior–despite the influence of his crooked father, Major Burdle (George Bancroft). When Jo's school faces a bank foreclosure, the Major's cohort, Willie the Fox (Jack Oakie), turns himself in for the $5,000 reward and presents the money to Jo in order to save the school. Good comic relief from Jack Oakie.
