John Ried (Klinton Spilsbury) is the sole survivor of an ambush by Butch Cavendish (Christopher Lloyd) and his gang. John is rescued by his childhood friend Tonto (Michael Horse) and nursed back to health. John assumes the name of the Lone Ranger–after his Ranger brother who was killed in the ambush–and is determined to bring the Cavendish gang to justice. He dons his mask and riding his horse Silver sets out with Tonto to save President Ulysses S. Grant (Jason Robards) who the Cavendish gang has abducted.

Monte Walsh (Lee Marvin) and Chet Rollins (Jack Palance) are friends who have trouble adapting to the contemporary world during the last days of the Old West. Their friends are losing their jobs and turning to cattle rustling. Chet marries, but an ailing Martine (Jeanne Moreau) turns down Monte's offer of marriage. | | 52marksman 06/28/2009 | | Monte Walsh is to Lee Marvin what Tom Horn is to Steve Mcqueen This is a western. But only in the sense that it takes place in the west,on horseback during the era ( or rather the end of the era ) of the true cowboy. It is a poignant story of a man, who is nearer to the end of his life than the begining , and finds himself in an ever changing world into which he no longer fits. Circumstances involving his best friend, and his lover make for a surprisingly touching and introspective story. A story in which one cannot help but care about the characters. I highly recommend watching it. |
