Is the murderer closer than Morgan imagines?

Telly Savalas plays the talkative prisoner in the next cell, and Thelma Ritter takes on the role of Stroud's controlling mother. Excellent performances by Lancaster, Savalas, and Ritter earned Academy Award nominations.

The climatic conclusion involves a chase through the sewer system of Los Angeles. A good thriller.

Against orders, Reynolds leads his guerilla fighters into China and seeks retribution through bloodshed. A court martial follows, but Reynolds is able to make his point and is cleared. Meanwhile, Carla must decide whether or not to change her life and go to the U.S. with Reynolds.

Director Lubitsch died shortly after the start of filming; Otto Preminger completed the film without credits.
