In the late 18th century, Elisabetta Benedetti (Galatea Ranzi) puts a curse on the Benedetti family after her lover Jean (Michael Vartan) is executed for a crime committed by her brother Corrado (Claudio Bigagli). Over the next two centuries, the family has gained and lost wealth and is hated by their neighbors. Now, Luigi (Lino Capolicchio), his wife Juliette (Constanze Engelbrecht), and their children visit Luigi's father Massimo (also played by Vartan) who has frittered away the family fortune. Massimo relates the story of the family's misfortunes to the children, and he just may hold the key to removing the curse, or will he pass it on to them?

Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia are featured in "The Jar"–a story about a craftsman (Ingrassia) who gets trapped inside a jar that he is repairing. In Requiem," villagers oppose a feudal landlord, the Baron (Pasquale Spadola). The epilogue, "Conversing with Mother," involves a son (Omero Anonutti) who talks to the spirit of his deceased mother (Regina Bianchi).
