This film is a sequel to "The Hustler." The aging pool champion Fast Eddie Felson (Paul Newman) has a protege, Vincent Lauria (Tom Cruise), to join him in profits available through pool games. But, Vincent's manipulative girlfriend Carmen (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio) wants in on the action, and a power struggle ensues leading to a match between Fast Eddie and Vincent in Atlantic City. The dirty, snow-covered city and smoky pool halls reflect the lives of the characters. Paul Newman won an Academy Award for Best Actor.
