  Bootlegger Larry Maddux (Paul Newman) discovers Helen Morgan (Ann Blyth) while she is performing in a carnival and helps her rise to stardom on Broadway. But, Larry is using Helen for his own good, and Helen is torn between Larry and married lawyer Russell Wade (Richard Carlson). Helen turns to alcohol and, after the Stock Market crash in 1929, ends up in Bellevue Hospital. But, Helen rises above her problems and regains her stardom. Songs include "Sunny Side of the Street" and "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man." (sung by Gogi Grant).

  Okay I'm an oldie...... well, old enough to have seen this as a kid when it first came to television here in Australia. I loved it then and have just recently seen it again with my children. We all loved it.
