Sex addict and medical school dropout Victor Mancini (Sam Rockwell) spends his days working at a Colonial American theme park and his nights at upscale restaurants where he intentionally chokes hoping for attention and money. He also is helping support his mentally ill mother Ida (Angelica Huston) who is institutionalized with dementia. On one visit to his mother, Ida mistakes Victor for her lawyer and tells him she is disappointed in Victor. After that news, Victor and his fellow-addict friend Denny (Brad William Henke) attend a Sex Addicts Anonymous group. Then, in a rare moment of lucidity, Ida tells Victor that she has held back on the identity of his father. Now, with help from Denny and Ida's physician Dr. Paige Marshall (Kelly Macdonald), Victor tries to find out who his father really is.
