Successful lawyers Daniel Rafferty (Pierce Brosnan) and Audrey Woods (Julianne Moore) oppose each other in a divorce case involving rock star Thorne Jamison (Michael Sheen) and dress designer Serena (Parker Posey). Possession of the couple's Irish castle hangs in the balance. While visiting Ireland to check out the castle, Daniel and Audrey go to a party, drink too much, and get married. Now they must put on a public face of being happily married–not an easy feat.
