Happiness (Forest Whitaker) is a business executive who is told a race is rigged and bets everything. Sorrow (Sara Michelle Gellar) is pop singer Trista who faces losing her career when she cuts off all ties to her manager. Love (Kevin Bacon) is a doctor who must treat Gina (Julie Delpy) who had turned him down romantically. Last but not least, Pleasure (Brendan Fraser) is a criminal who deals with his premonitions and his failure to change the future.

While this film may not be for everyone, both fine acting and superb directing work well together in this successful black comedy.

Fico tries to hold his upper-class family together while his brothers, Ricardo and Luis (Enrique Murciano and Nestor Carbonell), support the revolution. Later, after Ricardo is killed, Fico falls in love with Ricardo's widow, Aurora (Ines Sastre).
