  After his aunt, Lady Brandon (Alice Joyce) steals valuable jewelry, Beau Geste (Ronald Colman) takes the blame and then flees the country with his brothers, Digby (Neil Hamilton) and John (Ralph Forbes). They join the French Foreign Legion, and Beau and John end up under the leadership of brutal Sergeant Lejaune (Noah Beery) who, unbeknownst to the brothers, is aware that Beau is wanted by the police. Lejaune plots to get the jewels that are rumored to be in Beau's possession, but Arab forces attack, and Beau is killed. More tragedies ensue before John is the sole surviving brother, and he heads home to his fiancee Isobel (Mary Brian). An exellent silent film.

Kranau and allows him to escape. When her actions are uncovered, X-27 is caught and sentenced to execution. Problems arise at the execution when the Court Martial officer (Barry Norton) says that he cannot shoot a woman. There is a short respite followed ultimately by her execution.

  Lt. Colonel Owen Thursday (Henry Fonda) is annoyed because he has been sent out West to command Fort Apache in Arizona after serving valiantly during the Civil War. Michael O'Rourke (Ward Bond) discover the bodies of mutilated soldiers murdered by the Apaches, Thursday decides to stir up the Indians for his own fame and fortune. One of his officers, Capt. Kirby York (John Wayne), tries to teach him the realities of co-existing with the Indians and tells him that the real problem is not the Apaches, but, instead, it is the corrupt Indian agents promoting the problems. York's words go unheeded, and Thursday leads his men into a disastrous situation after which he is labeled a hero by the press.

They are accompanied by Indian troops and water-bearer Gunga Din (Sam Jaffe) and manage to complete their mission. Later, Cutter and Gunga Din search for gold and find it–in the Thugges' headquarters, and the dangers reach new heights.

They stumble onto an oasis where they hope to find rest, but snipers begin to pick off the men, and the religious ranting of Sanders (Boris Karloff) fills their ears. Finally, only two men remain alive–Sergeant Morelli (Wallace Ford) and Sanders–and the desperate fight for survival continues. Another John Ford masterpiece with interesting characters.
