They become friends, but as the friendship grows Mercer begins to suspect that there is more to sweet, fragile Erica than meets the eye.

As if that were not enough, a bank executive (Christopher Plummer) hires a "fixer," Madeline White (Jodie Foster) to intercede and deal with the robbers. Trouble, trouble, and more troubles ensue.
