Years after Jewish business executive Walter Whitney's (George Segal) affair with an African-American woman, their 17-year-old son, Roger (Denzel Washington), comes knocking on the door. When Walter confesses to his wife Vivian (Susan Saint James) that Roger is his son, his life changes. Walter loses Vivian, his job, and place in society and must resort to doing blue-collar work. With his change in lifestyle, Walter begins to understand the obstacles of prejudice that Roger endures. This comedy attempts to blend humor with racial prejudice.

Upon hearing of the re-institution of the dance, the veteran decides to get back in the killing business. A gory mess that is saved only by the good cast and special effects.
