Beautiful Montana scenery around the Big Blackfoot River sets off this drama about the Maclean family during the early 20th century. Reverend Maclean and his wife (Tom Skerritt and Brenda Blethyn) are raising their very different sons–scholarly Norman (Craig Sheffer) and impetuous Paul (Brad Pitt). Their father has instilled in Norman and Paul a love of fly-fishing, and that love is what keeps them together amidst problems with gambling, alcohol, and their very stern father.
