Helene (Edith Scob) prepares for her 75th birthday and invites her children to her home in the French countryside. Designer Adrienne (Juliette Binoche) arrives from New York, and Jeremie (Jeremie Renier) comes from China with his wife Angela (Valerie Bonneton). Economist Frederick (Charles Berling) arrives with his wife Lisa (Dominique Reymond). When they are gathered together, Helene asks them to decide on what to do with her home and valuable art collection after she dies. They have different opinions. Later, Helene dies, and now her children must take on the difficult task of deciding how to dispose of her property, which involves many memories of their lifetime.
