Short on cash after spending his savings to ensure a good marriage for his daughter, Iranian immigrant Col. Tensions accelerate when she is aided and abetted by her new boyfriend (Ron Eldard), a policeman who knows all the tricks of the trade. Skip ahead 15 years, and Diana (now played by Uma Thurman) is married to Paul (Brett Cullen), and they have a young daughter, Emma (Gabrielle Brennan). But Diana is haunted by survivor's guilt and has never gotten over the tragedy. Matters grow worse as the anniversary of that fateful day draws near, and another problem from Diana's past enters the picture.
