  Busby Berkeley's musical numbers highlight this entertaining film about what goes on behind the scenes of the Broadway musical show, "Pretty Lady." When the show's temperamental star, Dorothy Brock (Bebe Daniels) breaks her ankle on the night of the show's opening, chorus girl Peggy Sawyer (Ruby Keeler) fills in and takes over the lead. Featured numbers include" "You're getting to Be a Habit with Me," "Shuffle off to Buffalo," and "42nd Street." The film received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

When bank examiner J. Pinkerton Snoopington (Franklin Pangborn) arrives on the scene, mayhem ensues culminating in a great car chase. W.C. Fields' mastery of the comic art makes this film a classic.

  In the era of jitterbugging, carnival barker Nicky Nelson (Bob Hope) acts as an agent promoting the "hot" music of drummer Gene Krupa's band. Nicky has problems getting Krupa's band a gig–until the band scores a success on the boardwalk. Meanwhile, Nicky falls in love with singer Lily Racquel (Shirley Ross) and risks losing everything but takes advantage of one last chance to gain success. The music includes "The Lady's in Love with You," "Some Like It Hot," and "Heart and Soul."

  Terry Martin (James Stewart) and his crew at an auto plant have invented a new carburetor that they want to use in the upcoming Indianapolis 500 race. The plant owner's daughter Jane (Wendy Barrie) suggests that Terry let her engineer friend Frank (Weldon Heyburn) help in perfecting the carburetor. Frank steps in, but problems arise between Terry and Frank because they both are falling for Jane. When the carburetor is tested, it turns out to be a disaster, and the car crashes nearly killing the driver, Gadget (Ted Healy) and Terry. Frank saves them, and, together, they work to perfect the carburetor. They succeed and enter the car in the big race where the new carburetor earns the respect of all, and Terry ends up with Jane.
