When Saigon fell at the close of the Vietnam War, a brother and sister–Dwayne (Chi Muoi Lo) and Mai (Lauren Tom)–were separated from their parents and, subsequently, adopted in the U.S. by an African American family: Harold (Paul Winfield) and Dolores Williams (Mary Alice). The story takes place years later when Mai tracks down their birth mother, Vinh (Tzi Ma), and brings her home. Inevitable problems ensue.
