An exquisite movie! 10/18/2006
I saw the movie when it opened in Santa Barbara in 1983. I have been trying to find a copy, off and on ever since. The imagery, the reflections, the insight into North and South American cultures are extraordinary.

Three silent-screen cowboys–Dusty Bottoms (Chevy Chase), Lucky Day (Steve Martin), and Ned Nederlander (Martin Short)–have been fired from the studio when they receive a message from Carmen (Patrice Martinez) begging them to save her Mexican town. They think that Carmen is paying them to perform their singing routine in a show, but she really wants them to rid her town of marauding El Guapo (Alfonso Arau) who is terrorizing her friends and neighbors. They do head south of the border and arrive in Carmen's town and then learn that Carmen has been kidnapped by El Guapo. What do they do? They perform acts of heroism–just like they have done on the screen–and save the town.
