  Edited from a 250-minute TV miniseries, this film relates the sad life experiences of Woolworth heiress Barbara Hutton (Farrah Fawcett). When she was six years old, Barbara inherited $40 million. She was married seven times, and film star Cary Grant (James Read) was her third husband. When they divorced, Cary refused to take her fortune, but the other husbands did gain financially. When Barbara died at age 65, she had only $3,500 left from her inheritance.

  Following her divorce, Carly Norris (Sharon Stone) finds a new apartment in a needle-shaped structure. The shape of this apartment building is not the only thing strange about it; its occupants could only be described as extremely peculiar. Carly meets new neighbors–author Jack Lansford (Tom Berenger) and her landlord Zeke Hawkins (William Baldwin)–who are both attracted to her, and she begins an affair with Zeke. Carly learns that women in the apartment building have been killed and that the police suspect that a serial killer is responsible. When Carly discovers that Zeke has secretly wired the apartments and watches the activities of the tenants, she suspects him as the killer but, at the same time, becomes obsessed with the lives of her neighbors. Is Carly setting herself up to be the next victim?
