Set in the Malaysian jungle in 1924, this tale involves British surveyor Hamish Winslow (JJ Feild) and fiancee Sarah (Janet McTeer) who arrive at a trading post where they encounter the head of the post, the very strong-willed Mrs. Jones (Brenda Fricker) who opposes their lifestyle. She tries bullying Hamish, but that doesn't work, and life settles down–until Mrs. Jones' high-strung son, William (Tony Maudsley) becomes interested in Sarah.
