Mexican-American Tommy Cantanios (Lalo Rios) lives in White dominated East Los Angeles in the 1950s when he decides that the best way to improve his lot in life is to train as a boxer and excel in the ring. Tommy gets his training from boxing scout Pete Genusa (Gerald Mohr) and gains success as a boxer but learns that despite his standings in the ring, he is still considered to be an "outsider" in the neighborhood.
