Set in 1866, this story follows the Russian novelist, Fyodor Dostoyevsky (Michael Gambon), as he struggles to produce the manuscript for "The Gambler" in just 27 days. Anna soon realizes that the story is autobiographical, and, as she listens to the story of Polina's (Polly Walker) and Alexi's (Dominic West) romance and Alexi's gambling obsession, Anna becomes attracted to Dostoyevsky.
