During a trip to Ireland, King Mark of Cornwall (Richard Burton) falls in with Isolde (Kate Mulgrew), and, after returning home, he sends his nephew Tristan (Nicholas Clay) to Isolde with a marriage proposal. On the trip back to Cornwall, Tristan and Isolde fall in love, and Isolde gives Tristan a magic potion that will bind the lovers together forever. Even Isolde's marriage to King Mark will not dissolve the bond.
