To settle the matter, Arvilla and her good friends Margene (Kathy Bates) and Carol (Joan Allen) join her on a car trip in Joe's 1966 red Pontiac Bonneville to deliver his ashes to Francine in Santa Barbara. And the adventure begins with many stops along the way–including a flat tire in Utah, hitchhiker Bo (Victor Rasuk) who is looking for the father he never knew, and truck driver Emmett (Tom Skerritt) who treats them to dinner in Las Vegas.
