An American artist, Robert Lomax (William Holden), meets Hong Kong prostitute Suzie Wong (Nancy Kwan) and uses her for his model. After the deception is revealed, Robert becomes involved with Kay O'Neill (Sylvia Syms) who helps him sell his paintings, and Suzie and playboy Ben Marlowe (Michael Wilding) become an item. Those affairs end, and romance begins between Suzie and Robert, which, after a tragedy ensues, ends with Robert asking Suzie to marry him.
