Travis Holloway (Courtney B. Vance) is a Black soldier stationed in England during World War II. Travis begins an affair with a White married woman, Maggie Leyland (Kerry Fox). Edward accuses Travis of rape–a crime punishable by hanging–and Travis finds himself on trial for his life because of racial bigotry.
