Manhattan 1979 R, 95 min. Genre: Comedy / Drama / Romance
Director: Woody Allen Cast: Woody Allen, Diane Keaton, Mariel Hemingway, Meryl Streep, Michael Murphy, Anne Byrne Hoffman, Tisa Farrow, Wallace Shawn, Karen Allen, David Rasche, Karen Ludwig, Michael O'Donoghue, Bella Abzug, Gary Weis
TV comedy writer Isaac Davis (Woody Allen) has divorced his lesbian wife Jill (Meryl Streep), and now she is writing a revealing book about their marriage. Meanwhile, Isaac is dating 17-year-old Tracy (Mariel Hemingway), but when that romance goes nowhere, Isaac hooks up with Mary (Diane Keaton) who just happens to be the mistress of his good friend Yale (Michael Murphy) who, in turn, is already married to Emily. New York City provides the backdrop for humor in this story about over-achieving characters and their short-lived relationships. Mariel Hemingway was nominated for an Oscar (Best Supporting Actress). 1 User Review

| | My vote for the best Woody Allen film | 1fatts 03/26/2007 | My vote for the best Woody Allen.
I was captivated from the opening shot: black and white fireworks over the Manhattan skyline, music by Gershwin.
There is the Allen Jewish-New Yorker-Neurosis stuff and the Allen self-deprecating humour, and it is all good. Better than good is Mariel Hemingway: the actress for sure, but not just the actress. The character. The screenplay. There is an unsentimental understanding that Woody Allen the director has of Woody Allen the character (called 'Isaac Davis" in this version, but Woody Allen is Woody Allen). It is a funny piece, but Isaac is self-centered and essentially selfish, and it costs him a lot and may cost him everything. This all revolves around Tracy (Hemingway) which is written bravely out of rhythm with almost everything else and is ultimately the move moving for it.
If you see no other Woody Allen film. . . |

Zombie 1979 N/R, 91 min. Genre: Foreign / Horror aka: Zombie 2 Zombie Flesh Eaters Island of the Living Dead
Director: Lucio Fulci Cast: Tisa Farrow, Ian McCulloch, Richard Johnson, Al Cliver, Aurella Gay, Stefania D'Amario, Olga Karlatos
I know, this is actually a Bomb, but in deference to Lucio Fulci cultists there must be some redeeming aspect of this entry in Fulci's Parade of Horrors. As zombies (that arrived by ship) are terrorizing NYC, a woman and her friends search for her father in the Caribbean. On an island they find a crazy scientist and flesh-hungry zombies all over the place. Slow and cheap. 1 User Review
