A mysterious creature, with the jaws of a crocodile, lives beneath Lake Placid, Maine. Fish and game warden Jack Wells (Bill Pullman) is assigned to investigate. Paleontologist Kelly Scott (Bridget Fonda) is also assigned to help in the investigation, and they are joined by Professor Hector Cyr (Oliver Platt) who loves swimming with crocodiles. Meanwhile, Mrs. Bickerman (Betty White) tells them stories about her missing animals and husband. Now, the lake is the focus of an intense search for the mysterious creature that appears to have developed an appetite for animals and people.
