Eddie Murphy plays Los Angeles social worker Chandler Jarrell who tracks down missing children. One day, he is approached by beautiful Kee Nang (Charlotte Lewis) who tells him that a religious sect has appointed him the "Chosen One" to protect a kidnapped magical boy, "The Golden Child" (J.L. Reate), from evil. Now, Chandler is given a magic dagger and a sacred parakeet, and, after going through several trials by fire, he falls in love with Kee Nang.
