Remembering this movie was made in 1949, I was charmed by the picture of life as it used to be. Walter Brennan is a character you love to hate and love to love at the same time. Natalie Wood is as charming as ever and though the story line is a bit thin and the ending predictable, it is a feel good bit of fluff . Wlater Brennan and Natalie Wood are a good combination for the black and white cinema.

Middle-aged bank clerk Wilbert Winkle (Edward G. Robinson) is drafted into the Army in World War II. This is a clever comedy that benefits from Robinson's normal good performance as he is transformed.
