In this prequel to the horror film, "Ringu," the story takes place 30 years in the past when Sadako (Yukie Nakama) is still a young college co-ed withdrawn from her classmates but eager to join the drama club where she also is not welcomed by its members. When one actress dies mysteriously, Sadako takes over her lead role. Then, other actors die–one by one. Meanwhile, reporter Shoko Miyaji (Yoshiko Tanaka) has tracked down Sadako in the process of uncovering a series of unsolved murders. Is Sadako a cold-blooded murderer, or are there powers within her over which she has no control?
