| | Memorable and Timely | Anonymous 09/20/2007 | | An outstanding performance by McQueen in this classic story in which one person has the courage to stand against evil regardless of others who choose to cower and criticize. Ibsen and McQueen clearly demonstrate once again that one person can change the world while also demonstrating the real danger of sometimes having that courage of conviction. I saw this sadly-unrecognized film in the late 1970s and it has "haunted" me ever since. I dearly wish it were available on DVD to view over and over and over. |

Now, Doc and Carol rush for the Mexican border with the money while Rudy follows closely behind. They encounter each other in El Paso where a shootout is a certainty.

Reese is killed in his effort, but he has enabled the Allies to overtake the Germans.

As the building erupts, the guests are trapped in the building, and their fates rely on Fire Chief O'Hallorhan (Steve McQueen) to stop the fire and save their lives. The special effects are spectacular in this disaster film. An Oscar for Best Song went to "We May Never Love Like This Again." In addition to two other Oscars (Best Cinematography and Film Editing), the film was nominated for four others, including Best Picture and Supporting Actor (Fred Astaire for his role of con man Harlee Claiborne attending the party).
