  The Van Arsdale kids (Brady Bluhm and Rachel Duncan) trick their wealthy parents–Treva (Carol Kane) and Paul (Ed Begley Jr.)–into hiring ex-con Edie (Beverly D'Angelo) as their governess. Edie quickly learns that taking care of the precocious children requires more than she had envisioned and decides to sell them while their parents are abroad. But, by story's end, they become good friends.

  Struggling musician Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) and television star Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell) have been together for more than five years when Sarah dumps Peter. He arrives and checks into a resort only to find that Sarah and her new boyfriend, rock star Aldous Snow (Russell Brand), are also guests at the resort–and, of course, complications ensue.

  It is World War II, and the USS Indianapolis had just delivered the atomic bomb that would be used on Hiroshima. A Japanese submarine torpedoed the ship, but due to the secrecy surrounding the mission, rescue attempts were not made for several days and by then hundreds of crews' lives were lost in the shark-infested waters. Following the war, an expedient court martial dealt with the cover-up.
