But, Kangaroo (voice of Carol Burnett) considers the Whos to be nothing more than Horton's hallucination and rounds up other jungle animals to teach Horton a lesson. Horton will not relent and tells the others, "a person is a person, no matter how small." Will the Whos speak up and be saved?

The film received two Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actor (Alan Arkin), and nominations were received for Best Picture and Supporting Actress (Abigail Breslin).

To help him in getting food, he tells them that if they go "over the hedge" and into the humans' town, there will be unlimited food.
