Jenny Lamour 1947 N/R, 102 min. Genre: Foreign / Mystery
Director: Henri-Georges Clouzot Cast: Suzy Delair, Bernard Blier, Louis Jouvet, Simone Renant, Charles Dullin, Rene Blancard, Pierre Larquey, Jean Daurand, Claudine Dupuis, Robert Dalban
Singer Jenny Lamour (Suzy Delair) yearns to be a star and consorts with a rich "dirty old man" to get ahead, which makes her husband, Maurice (Bernard Blier), jealous. Maurice even goes to the man's estate with a gun, finds the man already killed, and also finds that Jenny had smashed a bottle of champagne over the man's head when he had made a sexual advance. Thus, this excellent Hitchcock-like mystery begins with Maurice being the prime suspect.

Les Liaisons Dangereuses 1959 N/R, 104 min. Genre: Foreign / Drama aka: Dangerous Liaisons 1960
Director: Roger Vadim Cast: Jeanne Moreau, Gerard Philipe, Annette Vadim, Jeanne Valerie, Jean-Louis Trintignant, Simone Renant, Boris Vian, Nicolas Vogel, Frederick O'Brady, Gillian Hills, Madeleine Lambert, Paquita Thomas
In this update of Laclos' 18th-century novel, a married couple (Jeanne Moreau and Gerard Philipe) is forever looking for fun, excitement, and sex (with others, but innocent, of course). It does a good job of catching the mood of the late 1950s France and was later remade in the U.S. as "Valmont" (1989) and "Dangerous Liaisons" (1988).
