After winning a contested battle, things still aren't as they should be as the new wife (Martha Sleeper) and the boy do not hit it off. Tears flow in the audience.

  This was Buster Keaton's last classic comedy of the silent era. In this film, Keaton plays tintype photographer Luke Shannon who desperately wants to impress Sally (Marceline Day) and earn credit as a newsman in the process. Sally works as a secretary for MGM's newsreel department, and Luke decides that the way to impress her is to get a job with the newsreel department. Pitfalls lie ahead when Luke discovers that his lack of experience with the movie camera stands in the way of finding success with this method of photography, and the result is chaos.

She meets a mysterious man (Jack Buchanan) who asks if he may touch her hair for luck. He strokes her hair, but it is Vera's luck that changes, and she asks him to stay by her side. What Vera does not know is that he is actually the very wealthy Count Rudolph Falliere who is posing as a commoner in order to be near Vera. The Count plays his game until he ends up winning her heart, and they live happily ever after. Among the songs MacDonald sings is, "Beyond the Blue Horizon."

Wolfram is imprisoned while Patricia eventually inherits a string of brothels from her aunt in East Africa. Patricia marries a lecherous old man, and tragedy eventually follows. A treatise on the degradation of the human race and the last silent film by Erich von Stroheim.
