  Single-mom Julia Stonecypher (Olivia Newton-John) is struggling to eke out a living while raising daughters Emily Rose (Stephanie Sawyer) and Deenie (Chloe Lattanzi–Newton-John's real-life daughter). One day, bank employee Brian Harding (Gregory Harrison) comes to Julia's door and announces that her house is being repossessed. Just when it couldn't get any worse for Julia, Brian is involved in a car accident after leaving her home. He returns to the house where he is stranded by bad weather. But a bond forms, romance begins, and it looks like Julia's life will take a turn for the better.

  This made-for-TV drama is based on an Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn novel that is set in the "First Circle of the Gulag" during the Stalin era in Russia. It is here that scientists and engineers were forced to conduct military and scientific research, and the story follows these efforts through the eyes of one of the participants.
