Meanwhile, the story emphasizes the personal side of Elizabeth including her flirtation with Sir Walter Raleigh (Clive Owen) as well as the political intrigue between Elizabeth and her cousin, Mary Queen of Scots (Samantha Morton). The film received an Academy Award for Best Costume Design and was nominated for Best Actress (Blanchett).

After friends, including fiancee (Kate Hudson), send him four white feathers–signifying cowardice–Harry seeks to regain his reputation.
