But, Gargan returns, gets the warden Mr. Thompson (Dudley Digges) kicked out, and regains the boys' respect.

By now, Vivian is a drug addict and alcoholic and has become involved in a plot to kidnap her own son when her husband Mike hires "Harve the Mug" (Humphrey Bogart) to perform the kidnapping. During the kidnapping, both Vivian and her son are taken captive, but Vivian jumps out of a window, and the police rescue her son.
