On 4 July 1961, the Soviet Union's first nuclear submarine, K-19, is in trouble; a coolant tube has sprung a leak that most certainly could lead to its nuclear reactor overheating. K-19's Captain Alexei Vostrikov (Harrison Ford) makes decisions that upset the crew, while the submarine's previous commander, Captain Mikhail Polenin (Liam Neeson), who has been demoted to K-19's executive officer, resists tensions between the two and works with Vostrikov to save the ship and to solve a problem that could have worldwide repercussions. Based on a true story.
