District Attorney Mark Hunter (Michael Douglas) is running for governor, and rookie TV investigative reporter C.J. Nicholas (Jesse Metcalfe) wants a story. Nicholas frames himself as a murder suspect to catch Hunter fabricating evidence. Nicholas' plans go awry, and he ends up on death row. Meanwhile, Assistant District Attorney Ella Crystal is romantically involved with Nicholas, and she stands by him–a decision that puts her own life in danger when she uncovers the facts about the case.
