Arthur Penn received an Oscar nomination for Best Director.

The heist does NOT go off as planned, and Alan swallows the jewel, which leads to more heist attempts in this entertaining comedy/suspense film.

While the townsfolk pride themselves on their integrity, it soon becomes clear that its most revered citizens are willing to lie when the stranger offers gold to the person who helped him years before.
