  The tale told in Bobby Gentry's 1967 ballad about a pair of ill-fated lovers is brought to the screen with Robby Benson in the role of 18-year-old Billy Joe McAlister and Glynnis O'Connor as 15-year-old Bobbie Lee Hartley. Bobbie's parents (Sandy McPeak and Joan Hotchkis) tell her that she must wait until she is 16 years old to date, but she is in love with Billy Joe. Their romance is destroyed when Billy Joe tells Bobbie that he has had sexual relations with a man, and Billy Joe throws himself off the Tallahachee Bridge.    1 User Review

  OMG THIS MOVIE WAS SO GOOD THAT I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD WATCH IT!! AND I THINK THAT ROBBY BENSON WAS SO CUTE AT THAT TIME!!! BUT IT ALSO SO SAD THAT HE HAD TO DIE I CRIED SO MUCH THAT I HAD BIG RED PATCHES UNDER MY EYES!!!! AND I DIDNT REALLY GET WHY HE JUMPED OFF OF THE BRIDGE AND NOW I KNOW WHY AND IT WAS SO SAD I WHOULD HAVE NEVER THOUGHT THAT IT WAS THE GUY THAT OWNED THE LOMBER THING AND I DIDNT THINK THAT HE SHOULD HAVE NOT HAVE GOTTEN DRUNK CAUSE THEN HE DIDNT HAVE TO HAVE IT WITH THAT MAN AND HIM AND GLYNNIS O CONNER WOULD HAVE REALLY HIT IT OFF!!!!!!! IF PEOPLE HAVENT WATCHED THIS MOVIE YET YOU WLL HAVE PLENTY OF LAUGHS AND CRING MOMENTS!!!!!
