It's 1881 and famous bank/train robber Jesse James (Brad Pitt), at age 34, has had a turnover of gang members from retirement or having been killed. Even brother Frank (Sam Shepard) retired after the gang's last heist. Jesse even has a "day" job as a respected businessman using the name of Thomas Howard and has a trophy wife, Zee (Mary-Louise Parker), and two children. But the restless Jesse is putting together a new gang made up of second-rate gangsters, which includes young Bob (Casey Affleck) who has collected Jesse James clippings and stories since he was a small boy and idolized Jesse. Another problem that Jesse has is that there is a large bounty on him, dead or alive. As time passes, Bob becomes jealous of Jesse and with the reward he could receive, he decides to kill Jesse, which he does. An interesting study of the two men that is based on Ron Hansen's historical novel of the same name. The film received two Academy Award nominations including Best Supporting Actor (Affleck).

After that news, Victor and his fellow-addict friend Denny (Brad William Henke) attend a Sex Addicts Anonymous group. Then, in a rare moment of lucidity, Ida tells Victor that she has held back on the identity of his father. Now, with help from Denny and Ida's physician Dr. Paige Marshall (Kelly Macdonald), Victor tries to find out who his father really is.

Tim Allen is excellent in his role as the spaceship Commander Peter Quincy.

While attending a writers camp, Benjamin meets Tabatha (Halley Feiffer) and Lonnie (Hector Jimenez). They offer Benjamin $300 for the manuscript so Lonnie can make a film of it. Meanwhile, at a sci-fest, Benjamin submits his manuscript to Dr. Chevalier (Jermaine Clement) who steals it for himself. Chevalier changes the name of Bronco to Brutus (also Sam Rockwell) and alters many of the details. Interspersed with the story, the three versions of Benjamin's story are shown, and then, finally, Benjamin confronts Chevalier and accuses him of plagiarism.

John's problems grow even larger when the police investigate the murder of a woman involved in a drug transaction, and John worries that the clues are leading to him. Touches of humor offset the "heavy" subject.
